Nikkole Salter’s play Lines in the Dust challenges Black women to step out of the confines of how society defines value and success, into a space of self-definition. Through this immersive, community-building SBT Talk Forward™ experience, we explored this topic, as well as the therapeutic intersection of art and healing.
Led by therapist and wellness expert, Nakeya Fields of the Therapeutic Play Foundation, and the dramaturg of Lines in the Dust, Lindsay A. Jenkins of Maroon Arts & Culture, we unearthed the ways in which powerful stories can usher in revelation that leads to liberation at Black Being, a nonprofit wellbeing studio in Inglewood.
