Poets Jazz House is proud to present Poetry in the Park in a tribute to Grammy nominated, seven time NAACP Image Award Winner | Revolutionary Activist | Poet | Laureate Dr. Nikki Giovanni a Living Legend. A world-renowned poet and one of the foremost authors of the Black Arts Movement, her notable books of poetry are Black Judgment (1968) and Those Who Ride the Night Winds (1983), which were influenced by her participation in the Black Arts Movement and Black Power movement in the 1960s.

Giovanni has published numerous collections of poetry, several works of nonfiction and children’s literature and made multiple recordings, including the Emmy-award nominated The Nikki Giovanni Poetry Collection. She published more than two dozen volumes of poetry, essays, and edited anthologies and 11 illustrated children’s books, including Rosa, an award-winning biography of Rosa Parks.

Poets Jazz House is a Spoken Word & Music Lounge where spilling your heart is an art and searching your soul is mandatory to get in the door. Located in a quaint little Playhouse in the park we’re bringing you Poetry After Dark. The ensemble cast includes: Conney Williams, Lorenzo Frank, Yawo Watts, Art.us Mansoir, Nspire, Charmaine Charles, Mel Hampton, Tuesday Conner and the ORACLE aka Denise Lyles-Cook. Directed by Lynne Conner

Poets Jazz House pays tribute to legends past and present every third Tuesday of the month as they document the history of Inner City Cultural Center for the future C. Bernard Jackson Library. The doors open at 7, the show starts at 7:30pm (No late seating).
