The Road Theatre Company invites you to join them for a staged reading of Ajene D. Washington’s A Shadow in Time, directed by Justin Lord, on Monday, October 9th, 2023 at 7:30 PM. The reading is a suggested donation of $15.
Feeling his life is coming to an end, Chester Richmond, a broken, but proud man needs a memory of his legacy. When Chester starts working on a basketball court in his backyard for his grandson, it drives a deeper wedge between Chester and his son Clifford, causing a purge and heartbreak between the two.
ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Ajene D. Washington is an award-winning playwright, actor, director and set designer that resides in Bronx, New York. He received a B.S. degree in Speech and Drama from Lincoln University and a M.A. from Northern Illinois University. He has directed a number of plays and readings, such as Adam, American Menu, Buffalo Soldier: A Wayne Miner Story, Family Night, Fortune Teller Blues, Blood Cord, and many others. As a playwright, his plays have received readings and performances in New York, California, Arkansas, Missouri, and Tennessee. His play, Three Mother will premiere at the Capital Repertory Theatre in 2024. I Can See, his play, was a finalist in the TruSpeak… Hear Our Voices! 2022 festival. He received the BRIO award from the Bronx Council of the Arts in 2012 and 2020. The Arkansas Repertory Theatre selected his play, Almost September, for its “Voices at the River” series in 2007. He received an AUDELCO Award for Best Director and Best Set Design, also a nomination as Best Actor. He received a nomination for Best Set Design by Lucille Lortel committee. Ajene is a member of AEA, SAG, SSDC, AFTRA, Black Theatre Network and The Dramatist Guild.
