Debbie Allen presents HERstory

Debbie Allen proudly presents HERstory in honor of Women’s History Month, a month-long celebration of the power of women at the Rhimes Performing Arts Center. Showcasing a rich collection of fine artists, filmmakers, musicians, authors, fashion designers and performances by our own DADA Ensemble and Red Birds. HERstory launches March 2nd and runs through March 26th.

GALLERY RECEPTION: March 2 | 6-8pm

Grand opening is March 2nd, featuring a fine arts gallery reception with never before seen works and collected pieces from Kenturah Davis, Tiffanie Anderson, Karon Davis, A. Nichel, Camila Salinas, Jackie Liu, Peyton Burnett and Maren H. Jensen. Live performances by Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Abiodun Koya: Nigerian-born classical Opera singer, saxophonist, Hailey Niswanger and guitarist, Mia Garcia.

ARTS MARKET FESTIVAL: March 3 | 4-8pm

On March 3rd the Rhimes Performing Arts Center will transform into an Artisan Market Festival with a mission of supporting women-owned, creative small businesses. Enjoy live music and performances from esteemed violinist Geneviéve Gros-Louis; films by Ambrose Rhapsody Murray and DADA’s own Celeste Lanuza; Mexican folk dance by Grupo Folklorico Revolucion; vocals from guitarist Dianna Lopez and sounds by DJ Sierra La Bonita. Guests can also participate in interactive art booths ranging from live painting and spray paint to custom ring making and more.

 

‘ORIGIN’ FILM SCREENING / Q&A WITH DEBBIE ALLEN & AVA DUVERNAY: March 9 | 4-8pm

Join Debbie Allen in conversation with acclaimed director Ava DuVernay for a screening and Q&A of her recent award-winning film, Origin. Discussion surrounding the film’s themes of the caste system, profound personal loss, human resilience and its impact on women in society will be explored.
