The story follows two friends united by their shared desire to create change in the Black community. Drawing inspiration from The Black Panthers, they devote their time to volunteering at a community center in Washington, D.C. The center offers free resources including food, clothing, housing, a healthcare clinic, and mentoring programs.
The play explores themes of social responsibility, the impact of grassroots activism and the personal sacrifices involved in building community and achieving progress. The effects of gentrification will lead both characters to a poignant crossroads of activism and ideology. Through a blend of tension, nostalgia, and emotional confrontation, the story encapsulates the struggle for social justice in contemporary urban landscapes. Through this illustration, they aim to take viewers on a journey and inspire the audience to become actively involved in the movement.
“Together we can be effective.” They hope the play inspires you to volunteer or donate to any grassroots organization in your community.
