This year’s installment in The Bloc’s American Saga Reading Series features the workshop reading of The Good Minister from Harare by June Carryl!
This powerful piece dives deep into power, loyalty, and the price of truth.
A low-level bureaucrat finds himself in hot water when an almost comical inquiry at the Ministry of Justice devolves into a nightmare of red tape, mysterious thugs, and murdered revolutionaries. Fighting to stay one step ahead of his long-time friend, a detective and true believer, the good minister is faced with the question of what he believes about his country and the price of true freedom.
Join this exclusive workshop reading and be part of the creative process before the play takes its next step!*
*Light refreshments will be provided. You’re invited to stay after to engage in dialogue about the play.
A statement from the playwright, June Carryl:
Whether it’s Rwanda, Gaza, Afghanistan, the Balkans, or ICE raids here in the US, violence and authoritarianism go hand in hand. Each time, the world says never again; and each time, we cycle back. The Good Minister from Harare is about the lies we tell ourselves to maintain our peace at the expense of our liberty.
Parking:
Street parking is available on Washington Blvd., Raymond Ave. and in the surrounding neighborhood. Please read street signs.
