What does it mean to be suitable?
For poet and activist Bleu Inkk, it’s more than a phrase — it’s a reclamation of self. After nearly three decades behind bars, she now takes the stage to share her powerful story of trauma, resilience, and transformation in the world premiere of Found Suitable, directed by Anne Kenny. Additional cast includes Angela Bullock and Malikah Pinder.
“Outside sources told me and showed me that I was unworthy,” says Bleu. “I believed them until I realized that only I have the power to be found suitable in me and for me.”
This narrative explores profound experiences of struggle, strength, and empowerment, making Bleu’s story highly relevant and compelling across generations. Premiering at the Skylight Theatre on September 25 – October 4, Found Suitable paints a visceral picture of change and the indomitable human spirit. Tickets are free because of sponsorship by Unlikely Collaborators.
Since her release in 2017, Bleu has become a transformational coach, motivational speaker, and correctional consultant returning to prisons leading workshops and working with organizations like Homeboy Industries to inspire real, lasting change. She is a graduate of Loyola Law School as an independent Forensic Gang Expert.

BLEU INKK
(formerly known as April Adkins)
Performer / Writer
Bleu is a native of Compton, CA who is a survivor who transformed her trauma into a powerful force for change. After spending close to three decades in prison, she found freedom through her blue ink pen: writing poetry, plays and rap to express herself while she helped others to find their voices through writing and spoken word. As a passionate advocate for women’s rights and human empowerment, she taught incarcerated individuals to harness the healing power of poetry through her prison ‘Poetry Cafe’. Since her release, Bleu Inkk has returned to prisons leading workshops challenging and changing mindsets from ‘Weary to Worthy’, demonstrating how individuals can find themselves suitable. Her journey has taken her across the country. Bleu is a Transformational Coach, Motivational Speaker, Storytelling Coach, Correctional Consultant and a graduate of Loyola Law School as an independent Forensic Gang Expert.
