Independent Shakespeare Company presents White People Do Not Know How to Behave at Entertainments Designed for Ladies and Gentlemen of Colour by Carene Mekertichyan, directed by Bruce A. Lemon, Jr.
Devised by a collective of ISC’s Black ensemble members, including Patrick Batiste, Brent Charles, Carene Mekertichyan, Bukola Ogunmola, and Sabra Williams, with special thanks to Aisha Kabia, this new work takes audiences on a multi-sensory journey through the past, present, and future of the Black American theater performer.

Established by William Henry Brown as a place for theater by and for Black people in 19th century New York, The African Grove Theatre Company was a home for many artists, including the legendary classical actor Ira Aldridge.
