The Robey Theatre Company’s Playwright’s Lab is a creative incubator dedicated to the art of storytelling and the development of high-quality, original plays. With a strong emphasis on collaboration, the Lab is designed to inspire artistic growth through guided discussions, one-on-one dramaturgical support, and staged readings.

Facilitated by The Robey Theatre Company’s Resident Dramaturg, Reginald Edmund, this ten-week program—held on Saturdays; offers weekly group sessions and individual meetings tailored to each writer’s goals. Through writing prompts, explorations of structure and form, targeted assignments, and readings of both new and established work, playwrights are encouraged to take creative risks, refine their voice, and deepen their craft.

At its core, the Playwright’s Lab nurtures new work that explores and amplifies the global Black experience, providing a supportive space for playwrights to ask bold questions, experiment with ideas, and shape stories that resonate.
